How to filter SPAM out of your Facebook & Instagram Inbox

September 16, 20251 min read

Tired of your business inbox being flooded with spam? From fake "Facebook Support" messages to dodgy marketing pitches, spam can bury your genuine customer enquiries and waste your valuable time. Here's how to automatically filter it out in just a few minutes.

SPAM in Meta Inbox

Filter SPAM out of your Inbox

  1. Go to https://business.facebook.com/latest/inbox/automated_responses

I find it easier to just go to this URL as I can never find the link.

  2. Click the button to Create Automation and choose Start from Scratch.

  3. Name it something like “SPAM Filter” and check Messenger and Instagram.

  4. Under When this happens choose New message received and type in a word or phrase you want to filter for, as shown below.

  5. Add a new condition for each keyword or phrase (you can always edit the automation and add in more later).

  6. When you’re done, under Take this action chose, 'Mark as' and choose 'Move to Spam', as shown below.

  7. It doesn’t matter if the keywords are phrases or part of a word. We suggest filtering out the following keywords:

facebook support, Meta, update, policy, grow your, leads, weekly magazine, featured in, interest free capital, be a top, contact us, Partners, Marketing, Advertise, Agency, Social media

That's it! Your spam filter is now active and will automatically move unwanted messages to your spam folder. Your main inbox will stay clean, letting you focus on genuine customer enquiries that could be worth hundreds or thousands of dollars to your business.

Remember: You can always go back and add more keywords as new spam patterns emerge. Check your spam folder occasionally to make sure legitimate messages aren't getting caught, and adjust your filters if needed.
